Inter Milan
With the Serie A title out of reach, Internazionale's fans are already licking their lips ahead of next week's Champions League quarter-final first-leg match with city rivals AC Milan. However, Roberto Mancini's team must not neglect their domestic duties against Bologna as they still have some work to do in the league to secure a place in the Champions League for next season - although they can also get there by winning this year's final in Istanbul. Bologna, led by Serie A's oldest coach Carlo Mazzone, are no pushovers as they prepare to welcome Inter, the team coached by the youthful Roberto Mancini. Mancini, like all football coaches in Italy, on Friday fielded questions about football matters but also on the deteriorating health of Pope John Paul II, considered by the Inter boss "an extraordinary Pope". Christian Vieri and Adriano are both sidelined so against Mazzone's men it will be young Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins and Julio Cruz who will be charged with the task of finding the goals for Inter. Dejan Stankovic has also been omitted from the squad to travel to Bologna although the Serbo-Montenegrin midfielder is likely to feature at the San Siro against their city rivals next week. Adriano is definitely ruled out of next week's match and Vieri is also doubtful for the Champions League match as Mancini readily admits. He told club website www.inter.it: "I hope he (Adriano) will be available for the derby return match and he seems to be doing OK." It would not be surprising if Mancini also made some optional changes with next week's match in mind. Mazzone has no European objectives in his sights and can focus his team totally on the match in Bologna. The Rossoblu are seventh in Serie A, which is just outside the UEFA Cup zone - and they are six points adrift of sixth-placed Palermo. Mazzone told club's website www.bolognafc.it: "Inter are a stronger team than us on the technical level but the great beauty of football is that the strongest team does not always win. "From Bologna I am hoping for a performance of great effort and I am not sure yet how many of the players who have recovered from injuries will get a game. "We know that they will rest some players but they will play Cruz, who two years ago was the best player we had here at Bologna, while Martins is a player who has always been a handful for me." Mazzone joined Mancini in his praise for the Pope and even suggested the weekend fixtures should be halted even though the pontiff has been ill for some time now. Mazzone said: "He is a man who has given a lot to people. "To postpone the match would be the minimum we could do for a person of that stature."
